The 2017 second year collective, as part of their Wits Fine Art course, has spent the year experimenting with the material processes of painting, printmaking, photography, video, installation, sculpture and a level of independently driven work. Raw Source, their first-ever exhibition will present a curated collection of works as highlights of the year’s efforts.
For this collective, exhibiting artworks that are still “raw”, or unresolved to a public audience is both a vulnerable and important process. It resonates strongly with a desire to create and sustain dialogue around their work, inviting the feedback that is critical to the expansion and development of their ideas.
This exhibition marks the beginning of the collective’s creative journey through art production; the first milestone of many to come for these artists, as they continue to evolve and eventually go on to form an integral part of the ever-changing South African arts landscape and beyond.
